May 18, 2008: Robidoux Roundup MTB Cross Country Race- Corby Park, St. Joseph, MO

REGISTRATION:  ONLINE REGISTRATION HAS CLOSED FOR THIS EVENT.  Day of registration opens at 9:30am.

WHAT: Robidoux Roundup XC Cross Country Mountain Bike Race

WHEN:  May 18, 2008

WHERE:  Corby Park, St. Joseph, MO.  If you have raced in St. Joseph in the past, you are probably familiar with Krug Park.  However, Corby is an entire new trail system built and maintained by mountain bikers.  The trails are tight and twisty and FUN!

DIRECTIONS:  Corby Park is located along the parkway system in historic St. Joseph. Coming from Kansas City travel North on I-29 to exit 47, Fredrick Blv.(MO-6). Turn left heading West 1.9 miles to North 26th street. Make right turn onto 26th street and travel about four blocks to Noyes Elementary School. Please park in school parking lot instead of on the street. Race stages in field north of school.

COURSE DESCRIPTION:  The course is approx. 7 miles long.  The race loop starts with an open field sprint up a hill into the woods with tight twisty single track for a couple minutes before popping out into a larger open field section that twist and turns through clumps of trees (great passing section for riders). Riders then dive back into tight single track with nice climbs and tight corners.  Next comes the nasty climb behind the tennis court and the “Corner of Death” followed by a quick decent to the pond where the trail skirts the pond then up and across the paved road and down a short section of paved trail (another great spot for passing).  Riders will drop off the pavement with a quick drop-in by the creek followed immediately by a leg-bustin’ climb.  The next several miles are fast like a roller coaster with tons of flow and big ring riding for the fast guys.  This section is mostly single track with some open sections mixed in for passing.  Riders will then cross back over the paved road with a couple screaming down hills and killer climbs before reaching the start/finish area.    *Course distance subject to change depending on weather conditions.

Season Shake-Up
Written by Craig Stoeltzing
Thursday, 08 May 2008
What a spring...wet, cold, wet...sometimes dry but never on race weekend.  Our first four mountain bike races and trail runs have all been impacted by wet conditions.  We are as frustrated as you all are by the unfortunate circumstances, but as we have continued to state, providing the best overall racing experience is our number one goal, all the awhile protecting the very trails we have slaved over for the last decade.

After thoroughly exploring all options, we are announcing the following:

1. We will NOT be rescheduling the following mtb races and trail runs:  Crowder Crank 'n' Cruise or Perry Crocodile Rock.  We reviewed all regional race calendars and the simple fact is, the schedule is full and we can't justify going too late in the year.

2.  The three remaining HMBCS races: St. Joseph Robidoux Roundup, Landahl Kansas City Cup, and Landahl Truman's Big Love, will be stand alone supa dupa big time traditional cross country races.  We will NOT be awarding series overall points/awards.  However, we will be beefing up the prizes and payout at these 3 races.  At the end of the day, 3 races don't make a series, and it just doesn't make sense.  If we are rained out on any more of our events, those events will be cancelled and not rescheduled.  The trail runs remain unchanged as stand alone events.

With that said...we are less than two weeks away from the inaugural running of the Robidoux Roundup at Corby Park, in beautiful downtown St. Joseph, MO.  This is a supa fast, rip roaring brand new course and venue.
